KING CORIA NEWS.... January 2008: While Coria joked that he was very happy to be able to enter the Australian Open draw this year, he did not intend on beginning his year there. The ATP confirms that he may use his protected ranking of #105 for 9 months or 8 tournaments. In his first ATP-level match since the 2006 US Open, Guille will play Pablo Cuevas at 2 pm on Monday January 28 at Viña del Mar in Chile. October 2007: Guillermo wants to return to the circuit, and decided it would be better to begin in Brazil rather than Uruguay. He played in the Challenger de Belo Horizonte where he retired after one set, in which he blew a lead by serving 5 consecutive double faults. He played again in a Paraguay Challenger event and lost again even with the crowd cheered wildly for him. "It will not be in an hour that I will regain my level of before," he said, "But it was fun playing today and I was happy to have finished the match." September 2007: Good news for Guille. Because he has been out of action now for over 1 year, the ATP has 'frozen' his ranking at 110. He can use this frozen ranking for a handful of tournaments only, but he will be able to advance his ranking quickly with some good performances. Says Guille, "For a player without a ranking, I'm playing pretty good!" August 2007: El Mago is working in consultation with Luli Mancini, marking a return of the most successful motivational sparks in Guille's career. Mancini reports that Coria is playing much better than anticipated, and Guillermo confirms his desire to play has come back in full. Now ranked out of the top 1000, his goal is to play just a few events this year and set his sights realistically for 2008. June 2007 News: While away from tennis, Guille has scored a major victory off the court, successfully suing the vitamin company that sold him contaminated vitamins which interrupted his early career. March 2007: Coria is again injured from an abdominal tear which occurred in practice sessions, and his return date is now uncertain, but hopeful for the U.S. Mens Clay Court Championships in Houston, beginning April 9. (Another injury ensued.)
